We catch up with new Super6 player Seb Cecil...

Watsonians Rugby are delighted to welcome back-row Seb Cecil into the Super6 squad.

Scottish-qualified Seb, 23, arrives at Myreside fresh from being named English Championship side Nottingham’s young player of the year for 2019/20.

As a result, he is a strong addition to the Watsonians squad ahead of the FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series which begins late in October.

“I have had a great few years at Nottingham, but I have always wanted to play in Scotland given that my dad’s side of the family are from Aberdeen,” the player who has previously been on the fringes of the Scotland under-20, set-up said.

“From my holidays as a youngster I have great memories of trips to the north east of Scotland and now I want to make rugby memories on the field in Edinburgh.”

Seb was born in London and spent his early years there before moving to Wiltshire.

His rugby really began to flourish whilst he was a pupil at Stowe School and he was involved with the Wasps under-18 set-up in his late teens.

“Then I headed off to Nottingham Trent University on a rugby scholarship and I linked up with the Nottingham Academy set-up,” he explained.

“Things went from there and while I was studying I initially turned out for the Nottingham Academy and then going on to play for the senior team for three seasons.

“The English Championship is a physically demanding league, but you get to play against some top quality players and I think my experiences with Nottingham leave me in a good place going into my time with Watsonians.

“I had obviously heard that the squad finished top of the regular season Super6 table in 2019/20 before lockdown came and from what I have seen in training so far I think we have a good group of players together who can do well in the Sprint Series.

“As well as rugby, I am very excited to be working in recruitment and building a more sustainable career compared to playing full-time rugby previously, I am looking forward to it all.”

Watsonians Super6 head coach Fergus Pringle said: “We’re delighted that Seb has joined Watsonians off the back of a strong season for Nottingham in the Championship.

“He’s a hard working player and defensively strong, having also shown his versatility in playing at six, seven and in the second-row. He’s comfortable running the lineout which will give us good options in the pack.”
