Reaction from head coach Fergus Pringle and man of the match Joe Reynolds after the FOSROC Super6 win at Goldenacre…

Head coach Fergus Pringle has hailed the team’s disciplined performance in the second half after they defeated Heriot’s in the FOSROC Super6 clash at Goldenacre on Sunday.

A late Heriot’s try at the end of the first half gave the hosts a 17-12 lead at the interval, but the Myreside men came out of the blocks quickly in the second 40 minutes.

Wingers Angus Guthrie and Lomond Macpherson scored tries in the second period as did hooker Cal Davies to add to earlier efforts from Macpherson and centre Joe Reynolds.

After the 32-17 bonus point triumph which left ‘Sonians top of the fledgling table, Pringle said: “It was a game of two halves. We gave away some soft penalties in the first half and that meant we couldn’t keep any pressure on them.

“We were a bit more disciplined in the second half so our game plan came to fruition a bit more.

“We conceded just before half-time, so we came in knowing that the momentum was with Heriot’s, but we came out for the first 10 to 15 minutes of the second half and got our hands on the ball in the right areas of the pitch - and made it count by coming away with points.

“There’s things that we know we need to get better at, so we’ll bank the points, but we know that Stirling will be a massive game next week.”

Reynolds, who has now scored in the opening two matches, added:“It was a top effort from the boys.

Heriot’s played well, but we just stuck to our plans and they worked.

“There was no panic at half-time, we just knew if we stuck with what we were doing we’d have a chance. The defence has been good in the first two games and it gives us a solid base to build from.”
