We catch up with Super6 player Roan Frostwick…

Watsonians have won four out of four in the FOSROC Super6 so far this season and scrum-half Roan Frostwick has played a big part in the good form.

The 19-year-old Scotland age grade has impressed many at Myreside with his link-up with captain Lee Millar at stand-off and has been a great addition to the club.

Roan took up the game when he was in P3 at his local club North Berwick.

He played there and at North Berwick High School into his teens and, in his last year of school in 2017/18, even played senior rugby for the club.

“I loved my time playing rugby at North Berwick with my mates, it is a great club with lots of people who work hard to make it all happen,” he said.

“Playing senior rugby for North Berwick was good for me too as it got me used to the physicality needed to play against adults.

“I had worked with [then] Currie Chieftains head coach Ben Cairns with the Scotland under-18s and last summer I decided the best move for me to keep progressing my game was to go to Malleny Park.

“The year there was great for me because they have some experienced players there and I could work on my game management playing alongside an experienced stand-off in the shape of Gregor Hunter and learning from Ben.”

Whilst playing for Currie last year Roan was also part of the Scotland under-20s set-up and played in the Six Nations and then the World Championships in Argentina earlier in 2019.

He then joined up with the Watsonians Super6 squad and is loving life at the club so far as well as being a member of the Scottish Rugby Academy and aiming for re-selection for the under-20s this time around.

“I have had a great time at the club so far,” Roan said.

“When I was with the under-20s last year I learnt so much more about tactical rugby and playing for territory when required and I am trying to add to my game all the time here at Watsonians.

“I think it is so important that a number nine has a good connection with the No.8 and the stand-off and in Morgan Inness and Lee Millar I have two great guys to work with while myself and the other scrum-halves Murray Scott and Ali Harris push each other on.

“We have had some good results so far this season and the team spirit we have already built up is there for everyone to see because we have had to fight back in a number of games.

“As a group we know we can still get a lot better and that is the exciting thing. The main focus is on the two games to come before Christmas now.”

Remember the Super6 squad play their next game on Sunday away to Boroughmuir Bears at 2pm, get along and cheer them on
