WITH THE WINNER SECURING £500 FOR THEIR CHOSEN CHARITY, DONATED BY BREADALBANE FINANCE

On Saturday, 14th of December, Watsonian Football Club and Melrose Rugby will meet at Myreside to compete for both critical league points in the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership and for the honour of claiming the first-ever Breadalbane Cup. Alongside the awards, the winner will also secure £500 for their chosen charity, donated by Breadalbane Finance.

Breadalbane Finance, a trusted commercial finance broker and proud sponsor of both Watsonians and Melrose, has introduced the Breadalbane Cup to mark the teams’ second clash of the 2024/25 Premiership season.

Alongside the trophy, Breadalbane Finance has pledged a £500 donation to the winning team’s chosen charity. If victorious, Watsonian Football Club will continue its fundraising efforts for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity, while Melrose Rugby aims to support the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation in memory of rugby legend Doddie Weir.

Jamie Lindsay, Managing Director at Breadalbane Finance, commented:

At Breadalbane, we’re very excited and proud to launch the Breadalbane Cup, between two clubs we are very proud to support and be involved with, Watsonians and Melrose. The two clubs embody our values and vision, as we look to support and grow the game across the country.

We are honoured to be able to offer a charitable donation to the winning side. Along with the chance for the teams to get their hands on some silverware and lift the Breadalbane cup.

We look forward to being down at Myreside on the 14th. It should be a cracking game and day and may the best team win!

For Watsonian Football Club, the Breadalbane Cup represents an opportunity to further their 2024 mission to raise £10,000 for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. The club has been organising events throughout the year and is closing in on its ambitious target. The upcoming match provides another platform to rally support while playing for a cause that is important to the Watsonian community.

Alistair Hamilton, General Manager of Watsonian Football Club, added:

“We couldn’t be more excited to launch the Breadalbane Cup here at Myreside. Not only does it give the two clubs something tangible to fight for twice a season, but the added charitable donation certainly adds a new dimension to the matches.

We have several pieces of silverware up for grabs over the course of the season as it stands, but this is the first one that will provide a monetary donation to charity, and we’re very proud to be at the forefront of that, alongside Melrose. We’d like to express a huge thanks to Breadalbane for making this possible.”

If successful in the fixture, Melrose Rugby will be donating the winnings to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, a motor neurone disease charity built on the memory of Melrose and Scotland Rugby icon, Doddie Weir.

Doug Crawford, Melrose Rugby General Manager said:

“We’re really looking forward to our trip to Myreside for the inaugural Breadalbane Cup game against Watsonians. Melrose Rugby are very grateful to have Breadalbane’s backing across the whole club and especially as the Principal Partner of our new Rugby Academy.

“Breadalbane’s commitment to growing club rugby in Scotland goes above and beyond, so it’s great to be able to celebrate their support with this new trophy. The chance to get your hands on some silverware always adds an extra bit of excitement, so it should make for an entertaining contest. Thanks again to Jamie and the team from Breadalbane, who I’m sure will be remaining neutral come the 14th!”

The upcoming clash between Watsonian Football Club and Melrose Rugby promises to be more than just a battle for league points in the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership. It’s also a celebration of community spirit, sportsmanship, and charitable giving through the inaugural Breadalbane Cup.
