Watsonian FC is delighted to announce our 1st XV leadership group for the upcoming 2026/27 season, led by newly appointed captain Stu Allison alongside vice-captains Murray Scott and Taylor Wilson.
As we prepare for a tough opening fixture away to Ayr this weekend, this trio brings a wealth of experience, proven quality, and fresh energy to drive the squad forward.
Captain: Stu Allison
A mainstay at Myreside, Stu steps into the captaincy heading into his ninth adult season with the club. Having racked up 97 1stXV appearances alongside 4 caps for Edinburgh District in the Inter-District Championship (IDC), his leadership is built on relentless consistency.
Stu led from the front last season as our top try-scorer, crossing the line 12 times.
Vice-Captain: Murray Scott
Bringing invaluable big-match experience, ‘Muzz’ hits a monumental milestone as we enter the campaign. Across eight adult seasons spanning both Watsonians 1st XV and our Super6 side, Murray has reached 100 club appearances.
Speaking at the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership launch day, Scott outlined the squad’s core target for the campaign ahead:
"Maintaining more consistency in performance is important to us. We were a bit up and down over the course of last season, so we’d like to set a standard and maintain that throughout the course of the season."
Vice-Captain: Taylor Wilson
Rounding out the group is summer signing Taylor Wilson, who makes an immediate transition into the leadership core. Taylor’s rugby journey began at his home club Dunbar RFC before making his mark in the Borders, amassing 34 appearances for Gala and 43 for Selkirk. He also earned a cap for The South in last season's IDC clash against Edinburgh.
Reflecting on his move to Myreside, Taylor highlighted the pull of the club's environment:
"Playing against Watsonians for Selkirk, you were always one of the most exciting teams to play against. I got to train with a few of the guys during the Super6 era and loved the culture—they made me feel really welcome and taught me a lot."
"I’ve always wanted to try out different environments after playing most of my rugby on the East Coast and in the Borders. I grew up playing for Dunbar and North Berwick before going down to the Borders to play for Galashiels—where I developed a liking for a Maroon kit!—and then Selkirk. It’s a really welcoming, good group of lads here and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in."
With the leadership team locked in, all eyes turn to Millbrae this Saturday as we kick off our Premiership campaign.
