Head Coach Fergus Pringle selects the matchday 23...

Watsonians Rugby Head Coach Fergus Pringle has named the matchday 23 for the FOSROC Super6 2021 match away to Boroughmuir Bears on Friday (7.30pm, live on BBC Sport Scotland website, BBC iPlayer and Scottish Rugby website).

The Myreside men go into the round three clash having defeated the Ayrshire Bulls and Stirling County while the Bears have beaten Heriot's and drawn with the Bulls.

With Lee Millar out injured, full-back Jamie Forbes takes over captaincy duties while Edinburgh Rugby's Jordan Venter comes in for a start on the wing and there is a new half back pairing with Murray Scott linking up with Marc Morrison there.

In the pack there are five changes, Matias Sonzogni Argiro, Vice-Captain Cal Davies and Angus Williams starting in the front-row, Kwagga Van Niekerk back from injury to start in the second-row alongside MNichael Badenhorst and Luis Ball getting a first start at six.

On the bench, Edinburgh Rugby's Sam Grahamslaw, who played for Watsonians Rugby in 2019/20, features and could make a first appearance of the campaign.

Pringle said: "Squad depth is going to be really important in this competition as matches come round quickly. We have rotated our pack with five changes while Murray Scott gets a well-deserved chance and Marc Morrison make his first start for the club at 10.

"We were pleased to get the win last week against Stirling County in a game where we had a lot of territory and possession, but couldn't capitalise and get points on the board.

"Boroughmuir Bears have made a good start to the season with a win over Heriot's and then they stuck in at Ayr last week. We are looking forward to the game at Meggetland and there is always a good atmosphere there on Friday nights and we know we will have to be at our best with a disciplined, clinical performance to get the job done."

The Allan McNish Memorial Trophy

Traditionally fought for by the 1st XVs, both clubs agreed to play for it in the FOSROC Super6 in 2019/20. The winner of the trophy was determined by the aggregate score across two matches and it will be the same this time around.

The Allan McNish Memorial Trophy was introduced by Allan’s family to mark the special connection between the clubs. He was a former Watsonians president who passed away in 1995.

Last time out Watsonians Rugby won the first leg 18-10 at Myreside in December 2019 and then, soon after in the same month, won the second leg 30-20 at Meggetland, giving them a 48-30 aggregate win.

Friday is the 2021 first leg with the second leg on Sunday, October 3 at Myreside.
