We hear from Fergus Pringle and Lee Millar after the FOSROC Super6 match at Boroughmuir Bears…

Watsonians made it five league wins from five in the FOSROC Super6 on Sunday, but they were pushed all the way by Boroughmuir Bears at Meggetland.

“I thought Boroughmuir were really good, they were a different side to the one that turned up at Myreside last week,” Watsonians head coach Fergus Pringle said.

“They put our scrum under pressure in the first half and we struggled a bit there. They put our lineout maul defence under pressure in the first half and we struggled a bit there too.

“We spoke about it at half-time and I thought we were better in the second half in both those areas. We had to scrap and fight, it was a bit up and down with mistakes, and messy around the ruck. But I’m proud of how the boys stuck in when we didn’t find rhythm and weren’t playing as we can. We showed a lot of character.

“We are now looking forward to heading to Millbrae before the Christmas break to play the Bulls.

“They lost their first game of the competition, but since then they have been in good form and we know all about the quality that they have in their squad.

“Millbrae is a tough place to go and win and we expect a tough test, but this week is all about ourselves and our preparations.

“We have had a six day turnaround since the game against the Bears, but the guys have continued to train hard and are focused on putting in another good team performance before the festive period.”

Captain Lee Millar added: “There are still plenty of things to work on from our point of view, but the great thing is that all the boys are willing to put the hard yards in.

“Boroughmuir really came at us last week as we knew they would, they are a different side with Johnny Mathews in there, and it was a tough game.

“When it went 20-20 we had to regroup and try and play the game on our terms again and thankfully we managed to do that.

“I still don’t feel we have put in a full 80 minute performance as yet this season and we will have to against the Ayrshire Bulls this weekend because they are a good side.”

Get along to Millbrae and watch the Super6 team play away to the Ayrshire Bulls on Saturday at 3pm
