We report from the FOSROC Super6 match as Watsonians defeated Boroughmuir Bears to make it four wins from four…

Watsonians remained unbeaten in the FOSROC Super6 on Sunday by defeating old rivals Boroughmuir Bears in the first leg of the Allan McNish Memorial Trophy matches at Myreside.

The home side got off to the perfect start after just six minutes when an attempted clearance kick was blocked and then the ball was passed to vice-captain Morgan Inness and he went in for the try. Captain Lee Millar converted and it was 7-0.

A charge down at the other end then saw ‘Muir back-row Craig Keddie go close before their scrum-half Kyle McGhie did open their account with a penalty.

Watsonians then got back on the front foot with the pack putting in some great work and that led to stand-off Millar kicking penalties in the 23rd and 29th minutes.

A try by Bears winger Glen Faulds, converted by McGhie, made things 13-10 at the interval and it was very much ‘game on’.

Watsonians have been strong in second halves so far in 2019/20 and that trend continued here, 15 unanswered pints in tough conditions sealing the 28-10 win.

The pack had regained the upper hand, led by the likes of tighthead prop Nathan Borel, second-row Jamie Hodgson and back-row Connor Boyle, and try number two for the home side came through loosehead prop Harrison Courtney.

That one was not converted, but Millar’s third penalty made it 21-10 and then, with two minutes remaining, replacement hooker Campbell Wilson went over for a try.

Millar converted to finish things at 28-10 and it was a job well done, especially by the forward unit.

The result leaves Watsonians top of the table while Boyle was named FOSROC player of the match.
