Super6 Head Coach Fergus Pringle is to become Scotland U20s Forwards coach, leaving his position at Watsonians.

Watsonians would like to congratulate Fergus Pringle on his new role as Scotland U20s Forwards Coach.

When the head coach took on the role of our Super6 Head Coach at the advent of the competition, we hoped to be competitive. The coach exceeded our expectations building a formidable squad that culminated in this season's double.

Not only has Pringle delivered on the field, but his efforts off the field have extended to every level of the club and we thank him for his meticulous preparations and the example he has set.

Director of Rugby Chris Hunter spoke of the coach in the highest regard

"This news brings mixed emotions – on the one hand, we are gutted to lose Ferg due to what he has given to this club over the last three years. However, we are also absolutely delighted for him as this is a hugely exciting opportunity for him."

Pringle added, "I would like to thank Watsonians for the opportunity to lead their Super6 programme for the past three and a half years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and have really developed as a coach through the experience.

"I'd also like to thank the staff and the players for all their efforts on and off the pitch. There is a really special group of players and staff at the club and I'm confident they will build on the success of this past season and continue to drive standards and achieve great things."

On his new position, Fergus said, "I'm looking forward to this new opportunity where I can learn from really experienced colleagues with international experience and contribute to the development of our talented young players coming through the system. Being competitive and winning games at U20 level is really important and I'm looking forward to the challenge of helping us do that.

Hunter added that he believed Ferg is a great fit for the new role, "It is no secret that the U20s have been struggling. I do not doubt that with Ferg in position full-time that he, along with Kenny Murray, can help turn the tide. Ferg has a real love for the game and an intrinsic eye for detail. I have personally learnt a lot since working with Ferg."

Chris Hunter continued, "On a personal level, I have got to know Fergus very well during his reign as Head Coach. He is very open about what he wants to achieve and sets clear plans for how he will do it. He is very motivated and ambitious."

"Not only has he brought success on the pitch, but it has also been a breath of fresh air seeing the improvements off the field. He has created a unique culture amongst a fantastic group of players, coaching and backroom staff."

It was also noted that the coach always has put the team's success first when Hunter said, "It has never been 'about Fergus' – it is always about the team and those around him."

Fergus Pringle will take on the new role immediately, and Watsonians will begin recruiting for a new head coach shortly.
