We report from the FOSROC Super6 match at The Greenyards…

The Super6 squad suffered their second defeat on the spin on Friday night as they went down 25-8 to the Southern Knights at The Greenyards.

A try just before half-time from No.8 Harry Fisher pulled things back to 15-8 and gave 'Sonians a chance heading into the second 40 minutes, but three yellow cards in the second half did not help as the team eventually lost out in the top of the table clash which was being live streamed.

After an earlier miss, a penalty from Knights stand-off Jason Baggott put them 3-0 up in the 18th minute before opposite number Marc Morrison responded four minutes later.

In the 25th minute, former Myreside man Fraser Renwick burrowed over for an unconverted try for the home side and, eight minutes before half-time, a converted effort by loosehead prop Shaun Gunn put the Knights15-3 up.

'Sonians needed to score next and they did when a neat kick by skipper Jamie Forbes was knocked back by winger Harvey Elms and Fisher pounced. Morrison could not add the extras.

Head Coach Fergus Pringle started using his bench at the start of the second period and front-rowers Ross Graham and Sam Grahamslaw came on at the interval.

A Baggott penalty made it 18-8 after 44 minutes and then, six minutes later, Kieran Watt entered the fray just before back-row Kwagga Van Niekerk was yellow carded.

Seven minutes into his time off the pitch, the Knights were awarded a seven point penalty try and back-row Karl Main joined Van Niekerk on the sidelines meaning the visitors were down to 13 men for a few minutes.

By the 68th minute, Watsonians were back to 15 men and the bench had been emptied meaning that young winger Angus Hoffie was on for a debut at this level.

With eight minutes to go, both teams were reduced to 14 men when Knights tighthead prop Euan McLaren and Watsonians centre Lewis Berg were yellow carded and 25-8 was the way things stayed until full-time.
