Bruce Millar has agreed to become Head Coach of Watsonians Women's team.

The defending Premiership Champion Women's team have announced Bruce Millar as the team's new Head Coach.

Millar joins the club at an exciting time with last year's Tennent's Premiership Title defence due to start on August 20th.

When asked what about the Watsonians coaching position inspired to apply, Bruce is enthusiastic with his answer.

"I jumped at the chance to join a big club like Watsonians and a team which has obviously worked incredibly hard to achieve what they have over the past few seasons. I was also excited by the opportunity to work with and learn from the other club coaches."

Having first entered coaching with RDVC Ladies way back in about 1992, after being convinced by his two flatmates, Millar has been on the coaching scene since.

Most recently as Strength and Conditioning coach at Gala from 2013-2017, then coached at Kelso from 2017-2019 and Duns from 2019-2022.

Millar is also excited about what he knows will be a tough challenge. "Retaining a title always seems harder than winning it the first time as suddenly you're the team to beat and everyone lifts their game when they play you. But with the ability and desire to improve within the squad, there is no reason we can't win the premiership again."

As for establishing a rugby philosophy, Millar knows he is inheriting a strong team who knows how to play, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have his own ideas.

"I have a clear idea of the way I like the game to be played, but I need to mesh that with the current style of play and how the team enjoy playing. Initially, the focus will be on ensuring a really positive environment and we'll take it from there."

Watsonians Women's Premiership Title defence starts with an away trip to Cartha before the first home game of the season, against Stirling County, on September 3rd.
